How to Apply
Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship? The Foundation will accept applications from girls and young women between the ages of 12 and 18. Applicants must be 12 years of age by September 1, 2012.
The Foundation’s review committee will give special consideration to girls living in underserved sectors, as well as first time applicants.
In addition, the Foundation is initiating a new program that will apply to all former Academy scholarship recipients. Details of this program are included below.
Applications from Former Scholarship Recipients: The Foundation has many different philosophies, one of them being that you must believe in yourself and “Choose to Matter”. We would like to challenge all former scholarship recipients interested in applying for a 2012 scholarship to raise half of their Academy tuition. Our hope is that you will use the unique leadership training you learned while at the Academy to implement a successful fundraising effort.
All former recipients are eligible to receive a partial scholarship worth half the Academy’s tuition, which is $482. The returning scholarship recipient will then be responsible for fundraising the remaining half of the tuition ($482) on her own. This is assuming that each requirement stated in the “How to Apply for a Scholarship” section is met. See below for details.

What is the value of the scholarship?
- Scholarships for first time recipients are valued at the full cost of the Academy tuition, which is $950.
- Scholarships for former scholarship recipients are valued at half the cost of the Academy tuition, which is $475. The balance of the tuition ($475) must be paid by the individual.
- Travel expenses to and from the Academy location are not included.
What is the submission deadline for 2012?
- The deadline for first time applicants to submit an application for the 2012 summer Academy sessions is May 15, 2012. Applications from first time applicants submitted after May 15, 2012 will not be considered.
- The deadline for former scholarship recipients to submit an application for the 2011 Academy sessions is April 15, 2012. This will allow the extra time needed for the recipient to fundraise the remaining half of her Academy tuition. Applications from former scholarship recipients submitted after April 15, 2012 will not be considered.
- The Foundation will award scholarships on a rolling basis, in the order in which applications are received.
Notification and Application Acceptance:
Upon completion of the application review process, the Foundation will contact all applicants by email and/or by phone. At this time, each applicant will be informed of the final decision made, based solely on the application submitted. Please assume that your application is still under review if you have not been contacted directly by the Foundation’s Director.
