Since its inception in 2006, the Foundation has awarded more than $540,000 in scholarships to 561 recipients across the country. Each scholarship has provided a deserving student the opportunity to spend a week at the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy (the “JFSLA”). With help from other local youth programs and non-profit organizations the Foundation works to identify girls and young women who lack accessibility to leadership training in their own community.
The Foundation believes that engaging in community service and initiating one’s own leadership project provides a great opportunity for girls and young women to develop lifelong skills. For this reason, the Julie Foudy Leadership Foundation has established the “Choosing to Matter” Grant Program. The “Choosing to Matter” grant is awarded to JFSLA students who develop a unique and thoughtful project to create positive change in their respective community. The grant’s purpose is to serve as support funding to ensure the beneficiaries have what they need to follow through with their project. This program has provided funding for 82 phenomenal leadership projects that were facilitated by students who exhibited an unwavering commitment to make a difference.
